PTO question

Recommended Posts

Michael Ward

Last weekend I bought a 1973 Wheel Horse 8 hp 4-speed (model 1-0120) for a restore project for my 15 year old son and I, just something to work on together in the garage. My project doesn't have a PTO, and I wish it did. Does anybody know if a 1976 B-60 PTO would fit?  (Found most of one on eBay.)

Welcome Michael!

I don't know the answer offhand, but one way to tell would be to go to the manual download section and compare the parts lists.

Looks like you need all the parts, the diagrams will be very helpful for this.

:text-welcomeconfetti:to the forum.  Like @Jeff-C175 said, compare the parts lists.

I'm going to guess that the parts will interchange - Wheel Horse was good at using common parts across models and years.

Good luck and have fun.

I've printed out some of the diagrams for my tractors--wiring and motion control parts, for example- so I can mark them up with notes and keep them handy while working.

It should fit.

And you need to polish us that sleeve at the center of the clutch plate. The bearing in the PTO rides there.

You might want to check with one of our used parts vendors in the Vendor Section - A-Z Tractor.  He's very knowledgeable about Wheelhorses and has a large number of salvage horses to get parts from.  he's also usually fair on prices. he's a busy one man business, so best to call him, then follow up with an email.
