1984 Work Horse GT-1600 REFRESH

Recommended Posts

Horse Newbie

My carb kit came in...got it.

It will be a spare as I have put the carb back together with a kit the PO have me with the Work Horse.

But, my intake to engine manifold gaskets did not come with the carb kit(the man said they did or I would have ordered them 2 weeks ago).

But at least I was able to get the valve covers back on...

I WAS NOT planning on doing all this...

How do you get the clutch friction disc off ?

Is it just these 4 bolts ? It is awfully thin...worn down almost to the rivet heads...

Looks like it's about 1/16th inch thick.

There are 2 set screws behind there that holds the deck belt pulley to the shaft. I hope I don't have to take those out !

I don't buy anything Wheelhorse off the fleabay unless no-one on Redsquare has it. I don't believe in paying eBay as a company unless necessary.

I am going to order a clutch disc from @76c12091520h ...and I am waiting on intake manifold gaskets, and paint.

But that's no reason for me to drag my feet...

So today I painted the exhaust pipes, muffler, muffler brackets, muffler bracket bolts, exhaust deflector, and the little screws for it...

Painted the oil dipstick sleeve, and the top of the oil dipstick too.

Got a question...

When I unbolted the clutch disc I noted that the 4 bolts had a flat "crescent" shaped piece of flat metal behind 2, and another "crescent" shaped piece of flat metal behind the other 2...

Are the corners of those flat pieces of metal supposed to be bent up against the bolt heads to keep the bolts from backing out ? (mine weren't bent up)

Funny this came up, I spoke with Lincoln on Friday morning about some items and resolving some questions I had. Very productive and enjoyable conversation.

They should stay flat, the retaining bolts originally had just a dab of Loctite on them.

The Rustoleum Satin Black I had ordered came today...which I guess motivated me to put some Rustoleum High Heat Black on the Briggs Twin blower shroud and chaff screen.

Dang it man !... I got some paint wrinkle on the blower housing.:ranting:

I will be glad when the intake gaskets get here so I can get the engine back on the tractor.

I have to touch up some of the frame with the Satin Black before I can set the engine back on though.

Should not have been...after cleaning it up, and sanding it, I blew off the sanding dust, washed my hands, wiped it liberally with a clean, lent free cloth soaked in paint thinner, blow dried the part, then primed.

Sat in my shop maybe 2 days with primer...tried to paint it black today...and walla !

You don't reckon the 2 days sitting caused it do ya ?

I see two possibilities.

Could be more.

1. blow dried the part.

That should be done BEFORE the cloth wiping with solvent.

Could be residue in the air hose, nozzle etc.

2. Sat in my shop maybe 2 days with primer.

I don't have a can handy but I think the Rust-Oleum 2X states something like top coat within ((??)) Hours or wait minimum one week.

I'm wondering if maybe the primer hadn't cured enough.

If I remember correctly, within an hour, or after 48 hours. I just got done painting engine parts myself.
