IMO… I would not necessarily be worried about the $1.50 bearings as much as them running dry, and then the inside race spinning on the spindle and doing more damage.

My spindles were already slightly damaged.

I know you weren’t necessarily addressing me on this, but that is the reason for me to be slightly concerned.

I bill the "Treasurer" $100 / hour when I do "Honeydew Jobs" for her.

 

It would take me at least an hour to change out the bearings, so that's 100 + ( 4 X 1.50 )  !!!

 

Might break the bank!

As are all of mine and that occurs even without a seized bearing.  I don't think the spindles were hardened, perhaps they should have been?

I do try to keep the axial end play shimmed to about .015 or so.  I think that helps some.

I've amassed quite a collection of different thickness 3/4" washers over the years!

Okay… thought I’d get off the couch and take the tires off of the rims for the Work Horse… never again !

I was wanting to get the rims ready for the sandblasting and powder coat shop.

From now on they will go to the lawn equipment shop !

I have a Harbor Freight mini tire changer, but I’ve practically wrecked that thing in the past trying to change tires… and if I mount it on my bench… too high, on the floor on a piece of plywood, not stable, wants to tip me over.

So I wound up cutting the old tires off… not easy either… those sons of guns had 9, did I say 9 hardened wires around the bead.

It ain’t worth the fuss !

I take them in and get them changed. For $10 it’s not worth the hassle to me…

I think the place I go to charges $25 to dismount and mount…

It's not all that hard I use a serrated Buck pocket knife and the cut the beads with a cutting disk and side grinder. Just have to careful not to cut the rim. i cut at a long angle to stay off the side of the rim.

I've cut off 8 ply 12 x 24 tractor tires that way.

These front rims really give me pause… pitted where the bead seals… I if I fill the pits with PC-7 it would hold up to sandblasting and powder coating ?

These may be getting inner tubes.

How’s this for an idea… when I get the rims back from powder coating, tape up the rims exempt for the bead area, then apply the PC-7 ?

But would the PC-7 hold up to the tire tools on the tire machine when the tires are mounted?

Come on fellows… need you input and experience here .

Th first 8 pics is the right and the last 8 pics the left… 

As you can see the right is worse…

PO put Fix-a-Flat in the right side I believe, and that was a pain in the butt !

I've got wheels uglier than that that still hold air fine.

 

Especially if you powdercoat them, they should be fine. You can also take them to a tire shop and have them swab the lip of the tires with that sealing goo they use on car tires. I've never found the stuff anywhere but at a tire shop. Basically diluted contact cement.

Not really a cement per se, more like thin gasket sealant.  Smells like it anyway.  I've got a can in the shop that I bought about ten years ago and used twice.  It still looks the same as when I got it.  It cleans up readily with denatured alcohol.

Whatever it is, I'd love to have a quart or three...

 

Lets the tire slip on the bead easily, and dries sticky. I've not had a tire leak down yet when it was used during mounting.

That’s why I ask questions that I could seemingly answer myself…

 

1.  I was wondering if anybody had had success with using wheels that were comparative to mine as far as pitting .

 

2.  The mower shop where I have tractor tires mounted probably has some of that bead seal.

 

I have also tried to find it but it seems nobody can get it unless you’re a tire dealer.

Tubes up front are fine, but I don't like using them in the back unless I have to. Seems they tend to slip inside rear wheels, and then the valves get all crooked or even broken. I'm guessing because of the lower pressure.

 

Again the "lip seal" goo helps here as well.

Should be able to find it anywhere Newbie.... auto parts places or TSC .... jungle place you'll find it all day. Search tire bead sealer. 

I'm usually with EB on the tubes tho. I couldn't get these to seat and not leak for love ner money. 6 ply skid steers with sidewalls stiffer than a wedding p. I don't think the tire to rim geometry was right so I just run them flat! 

Them wounds are definitely honorable. .. pullstart would be proud!
