Newbie Hub Question

Recommended Posts

ChubbyMinnow

So i purchased a set of hubs on ebay. When i went to sandblast and finish them, i noticed one of them is very uneven. (The right side of the hub on the left) My question would be is this somewhat normal to have these types of differences or does this appear to be altered with? It does not appear to be altered with to me but wanted to get others thoughts with more expierience.

Poor casting that should have been scrapped.  Coins that were minted poorly bring high dollars, maybe you can find a crazy buyer and make some money.

If the backside of the hub looks even then it has equal metal around the shaft.  That ring on the front is just a rim centering ring for insulation. It ran on some other tractor all its life and held up.  If I were using the tractor it’s going on for normal work, I would use it.  Just my thoughts

It looks to me that regardless of the 'centering' of the casting, that the axle bore might be wallowed out as evidenced by this shiny metal that appears 'rolled out' of the bore

That axle bore appears egg shaped to me.

Actually, there was a small sharp ridge i had just sanded down with a dremel in that location and did a little sanding on the other side of this hub. You can see that bare metal there as well.

Are you sure they are 5/16"?       Most lug bolts are 7/16".

Mcmaster has gazillions of bolts --- Bit of a hang-up is you most always have to buy more than you need .... but, that can beat driving all over the place looking for something.

7/16-20 is what you want I believe. You can also convert to studs and lug nuts.

I was wrong. It is 3/8” fine thread. The hub identification is
B8

Rangers used 3/8 NF  I converted mine to to studs and lugs.  (The lug nuts can be found on Ebay Amazon as the 3/8NF are use on several ATVs /Quads.)
