Hi looking at this tractor for winter project. Did Bolens 1000 last winter and enjoyed journey.

like this due to hydro. Does not run. Wants 300 which is too much for not running. Looking to

That appears to be a 1973 12 HP "No-Name". In '73 the :wh: line didn't give names like "Bronco" or C-120 to any of their tractors. Being an automatic it is a shot in the dark as far as the transmission goes, I'd tell the seller $ 100 as is or $ 300 if you can test drive it.

I'll "third"  that.

If you can't prove the engine and transmission are any good you have to assume that's a parts ONLY rig.

As I look at that tractor and how straight it is, no body parts missing, and looks like nobody has touched it, I would buy it if I wanted a project. It looks to have been stored inside,so a tractor that just mows lawns is nearly 100% good transmission.  Take your own battery and see if the engine turns over. If not, put a jumper wire to the coil, negative to ground, and jump the starter with a bit of carb cleaner [the good stuff which is mostly lacquer thinner] and it should bark off.

Tractors are higher this fall simply because there is a shortage of new ones. I would try for $200. If that tractor listing is a few weeks old, then maybe you will get it for that.

If you make it run or even fire a bit, that's enough for even 250 or three hundred.  If my own requirements were for running tractors or non running for 100, I would only have one tractor and would have missed out on a very nice C-160.

Buy the thing and i will stop by and help you out on my way to Ann Arbor to help you out and give you some hints on easy fixes

Letting my stupid out again. Wouldn't that by-pass the points? Or am I all wrong in my thinking?

should have said negative to Engine ground, which is what i meant.  As i understand it, the coil charges the condenser up, and the points at contact suddenly discharge the condenser creating a spark. I do not claim to be the best mechanic, but willing to try about anything. if I fail, it can be a free education unless i break something.

Right now I am rebuilding a spring perch on a rusty old Bonneville to get a kid through college. The real mechanics will not touch it, but when i am done, the thing will be stronger than OEM

I have a twin to that tractor.Mine is a 1973 12 automatic, and has been around here since new.Never rained on or left outside. It came new with a 48 inch deck, and I've had 3 or 4 of them wear through.I am replacing it right now with a 42 inch rear discharge,.I just bought another one almost like it,except that one is a 14 automatic.I always found it interesting that this 12 auto came with a 4 foot deck, and a standard trans  C-160 I have came new with a 42. In the 80's I would have trouble getting parts for the 12 auto going by the serial number. It didn't exist. My model number is,10460.One day the office girl at the dealer said, put a hyphen here in the number. That worked.Somebody forgot the hyphen when stamping the plate at the factory.
