September Oddity

Recommended Posts

Achto

Last month my lilac bushes dropped all of their leaves. I thought this strange but did not think too much about it. Over the last couple of weeks I noticed that they were growing new leaves, again strange but what ever. Today I noticed some thing real surprising. THEY ARE BLOOMING AGAIN, in September.:confusion-confused:  I can't say that I have ever seen this before.

Just wondering if anyone else has ever seen this happen?

SWMBO thought that I had injured ours last month when I trimmed some branches that wanted to poke my eyes out and scratch my arms when I mowed around it.  They too started dropping leaves like crazy...  as did the two Mulberry trees on the property edge.

I'll look tomorrow to see if they've decided to bloom again.

I think it's the end of the world or something.

My lilacs dropped their leaves 30 yrs. Ago. When I ripped them out! Bad allergies!

Blame it on a pandemic and enjoy the bloom!  I’ll check ours too.  Momma loves it, but I just race circles around it with the zero turn.

Don't have Lilacs, but my lawn thinks it's April.

Did some reading on this today. Apparently this happens when the lilac's experience a stressful summer.

:scratchead: Not sure what stressed them out. Didn't seem like they had any worries to me.

:text-+1: Plus, the whole mask mandate thing.

You know that's pretty stressful too.

Lilacs and poetry on the W-H forum, I'm thinking...

With all the research being done on vegetation being converted to bio-fuel the may have figured they would be next.       :ROTF:

I don't have any Lilacs but I hate to even drive by when they are blooming.
