Gregor 4,847 #1 Posted August 22, 2021 I don't know how it is where you live, but at my home in NW ILL. it's kind of eerie not seeing or hearing any birds in the air.
roadapples 6,983 #2 Posted August 22, 2021 No problem here. I'm in south central PA in the woods...
stevasaurus 23,279 #3 Posted August 22, 2021 What are you talking about ?? We've got about 60 wrens & sparrows around the bird feeder all day. Plus, an occasional woodpecker, cardinals and robins. We have geese and ducks flying over and cranes down by the river. I even have seen a few hawks soaring in the breeze just yesterday. Did something happen where you are at?? EB-80/8inPA 1,850 #4 Posted August 22, 2021 Plenty here in central PA. There used to be a pair of robins in the yard, one of which developed a white ring around his eyes and started looking generally scruffy. Then the news came out about this regional bird disease that causes that as one of the symptoms. They’ve since disappeared and are assumed dead. Saw a bald eagle, its nest, and a heron or two on the river yesterday. And lotsa ducks. Plenty of songbirds here still. Never did hear that brood of cicadas that was supposed to overrun the place, though; there’s just the normal level of their noise, thankfully.
8ntruck 7,833 #5 Posted August 22, 2021 I've noticed that the woods have been really quite here the last week or so. I think it it the heat and humidity this time of year.

It looks like the disease has run its course, whatever it was.
EB-80/8inPA 1,850 #10 Posted August 22, 2021 I do miss those robins though. They were funny little creatures, shadowing me while I was puttering around in the yard hoping I’d turn over a log or a rock or something with a tasty bug under it.
Daddy Don 909 #11 Posted August 23, 2021 (edited) My wife feeds the birds here three times a day. Makes her happy. So that makes me happy. Edited August 23, 2021 by Daddy Don
