yes I will have to check the regulator, In searching the web yesterday I came across some place saying that a bad regulator can cause intermittent stalling. I will go to an old horse dealer and ask them when I get the chance to. I am working down on the coast today so 100 miles from home.

Quick question I am in need of a new voltage regulator for the 314-8 it is the (3-spade connector style) mounts on the lower left front of the engine. Is there any reason that the ones for $20-$30 are not a good deal? The genuine kohler regulator is going to cost me $100.00 at the old horse dealer. Any input welcome, thanks Jeff

IMHO, $20 units have worked fine for me. Even if you have to buy two, it's a save.
