doug mahon 1 #1 Posted July 5, 2021 I was using my c160 today when it suddenly died. I get nothing when I turn the key. I was able to get it to turn over when I was messing with the pto engage lever. My guess is the pto safety switch is the issue.. I never use pto and would like to jump the switch out but not sure which wires to jump. There are 2 red and 2 black going into the connector for the switch. Any help is appreciated.

953 nut 59,240 #5 Posted July 5, 2021 We encourage everyone to operate their equipment with all safety devices working properly. You probably need to remove, clean and tighten the wires on the PTO switch to restore proper operation. If you find that the switch is defective you can get a good used one from https://a-ztractor.com/

Lee1977 7,134 #8 Posted July 6, 2021 Those tractors are old and get worn. I use to have to push in on the PTO lever to get my C-120 to start. I cured that by new bushing and tighten up the PTO shaft. Did you have the clutch push in when trying to start it.
doug mahon 1 #9 Posted July 6, 2021 I did… I also noticed some slop in the engage lever… I’m thinking it’s not pushing that little pressure leaf spring up far enough to close the switch

Tuneup 1,451 #12 Posted July 10, 2021 Doug - your 160 is just trying to say it wants some love. Bushings mentioned above. Maybe a wire here or there. You might want to take the opportunity to just go through it. Those switches are super simple - may just be alignment. That, or patch it until the season is over and then dig in. Nothing but fun on these machines if you like that kind of thing. The PTO switches on my 120 and 125 are the only safety switches that are installed. Yeah, I'm bad...
