Jhook 849 #1 Posted May 25, 2021 I mow a 3 acre lot with my 416h for side work. While mowing this past weeked about 1 hour in the engine shot a large flame out of the exhaust and died, hasn't ran since. Ive come to the conclusion that it lost spark after checking all fuses, and using an inline spark tester. Did several of the suggested tests from the onan thread. I ran a jumper wire from postive on battery to postive on coil, no help. Ive tested the coil with an ohm meter and it tested 3.6 which is within spec. Im planning to tear into it a little more today and looking for suggestions on where to look next. If i cant figure it out soon or it isnt an easy enough fix i will have to drop the tractor off at the dealership to be fixed there $$ thanks in advance. Any input appreciated. I was betting on that being the culprit but figured id see if anyone had any last minute ideas before i tear into it. Will pull the flywheel cover and intake and everything this weekend. Clean all electronics and remove all dust and debris from the engine and check for spark again before the flywheel comes off. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Tuneup 1,442 #12 Posted May 27, 2021 Not much to it, right? coil and module. You jumped 12V to the coil so the tractor's circuitry is out of the equation. Onan provides good guidance so the choice made in light of that guidance is probably the right one. Buy the module and move ahead. Love that engine - I can't help it. So much torque. Obviously avoiding the carb, and not spraying directly onto electrical components, but as far as getting everything a little wet will it be fine? I always worry about forcing water into some place it isn't intended to be. Simple Green (or similar) applied, at concentrations higher than recommended, with a soft, long-bristle brush and then rinsed gently with a hose are my go-toos. Going to soak it all week cause i work til sunday. Going to be installing this kit from onanparts and also a new stator, and new flywheel key. Any other recommended parts to replace while its apart? Jhook 849 #25 Posted June 2, 2021 I also dropped one of the three 5/16 screws that hold the air box on down the throat of the carb. So thats gotta get pulled as well. Unless i can vacuum it out. My fault for rushing of course. Everything else so far is going smoothly. This onan really makes me appreciate the simplicity and reliability of the kohler ch15s command pro thats on my 315.
