John2189 542 #1 Posted May 15, 2021 I have a Honda 48” walk behind mower. The deck belt is a 4L960. It fits well but it is too narrow for the pulleys. I’d like to put a 5L or b belt. If I do the 5L would the 960 length still fit? what length b belt would work?
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,479 #2 Posted May 15, 2021 960 will be too short but how much depends on how many pulleys it goes around and what percentage of the pulley circumference the belt rides on. Is a Honda replacement too narrow also? Garry

JoeM 8,337 #4 Posted May 16, 2021 I have had a couple of those style mowers (Swisher) and unless they have an electric clutch, the belt needs to be just right for mechanical disengagement. i am guessing it is mechanical, the way you say the pulleys are wider. The belt has to lay on the pulley and not grab when disengaged and not fall off. The weak link in those is that belt but maybe designed that way.
