Commando 800 Won’t Fire

Recommended Posts

I have a commando 800. It was in pieces and I am putting it back together. New battery. New plug wire. New fuel lines. Will fire on starting fluid. Won’t keep running on starting fluid. Does after I left off the key. Any ideas?

First off, put down the ether before you score it to heck. A little gas on a rag goes a long ways to negating dry bores. How's the carb? Carter N is a simple carb. It sounds like it's stopped up.

If I'm understanding right, it fires while cranking, and stalls when you let off the key?
You might be powering the coil off the wrong terminal, or it could be simply the key switch is wore out. See if you get a constant 12v at the coil + terminal in both start and run positions.

WHX??

:text-yeahthat:ease off on the sniffing salts aka starting fluid.. choke cleaner works just as well but a little less hard on bores.

Sounds like you have a wiring issue and a possibility of a carb needing cleaning.

I believe @Lane Ranger lives in Greencastle... lot’s of knowledge at his place!  I agree.  Check wiring and voltage at the coil during cranking and ignition on.
