wont crank over!

hello, I have a 267h with a new starter, new solenoid and the only way it will start is if u take a screw driver and jump the two terminals on the solenoid. any ideas as to why its not working properly thanks in advance.

If your new solenoid has two small terminals one of them needs to be grounded.

 Look over the diagram, make sure all of the safety switches are working properly and that the starter solenoid is grounded.

yeah, the last time i installed a new starter solenoid i ran into this. all of the ones i'd messed around with previously were grounded through the body of the solenoid (i assume?)

If yous solenoid looks like this, I would not ground one of the terminals.

There are many different solenoids in the world.  Some have only one small terminal.  they are grounded through the mounting bracket. The there are ones with 2 small terminals.  If they are marked S and I then they are grounded through the mounting bracket.  (The I is to bypass a ballast resister and increase voltage to the coil/points during starting mode..  if the second terminal isn't marked I then it is probably the ground as the mounting bracket is NOT grounded.
