The Tuul Crib 7,339 #1 Posted March 31, 2021 I recently bought a battery for one of my tractors that the engine has been rebuilt, it cranked a bit hard like the battery was weak so I took it back to the auto parts store to check to make sure it was OK. The battery is fine so my question is how many amps are the starters supposed to pull when starting?
ebinmaine 73,084 #2 Posted March 31, 2021 @squonk... I think... Had a gauge on a c-160 that read around 125. Have you bench tested the starter? Have you verified excellent ground in all portions of the circuit? Have you run an extra ground from Battery to starter, battery to frame, battery to engine, anything like that? 1
The Tuul Crib 7,339 #3 Posted March 31, 2021 All connections are new and tight negative goes directly from the battery to the engine block. I have not bench tested it yet.All connections are tight. Mods sorry about this being in the wrong spot! l should know better. 1
squonk 43,988 #4 Posted March 31, 2021 (edited) 135/115 Amps. A rebuilt engine may be a tad higher. New paint will increase amps . What kind of condition are the cables in. If they drop too much voltage, amps will climb! Edited March 31, 2021 by squonk

Since the negative goes to the block, did you clean between the starter and the block to insure a good connection. Is the starter itself in good condition? it typical for the front bushing to wear over the years. i had one that seemed slow one start and OK the next. The front bushing was extremely worn. I think sometimes the gear would be binding on the flywheel gear.. P.S. Home your doing all right. With Nashville having the Bombing,, then Tornado, and then the Flash Flood ya'll have had a tough several months.
