Yeah the one is in really pretty good condition. It just didn't have the chipper, which i wanted. Hence the combination of the two i am working through now - waiting on parts at this point.

Just an FYI. I haven't forgotten about getting the measurements on that chute. 

It's sitting happily right by my cellar door in the living room.

Not sure if this idler will work. The belt seems pretty jumpy. 

Hoping I'll get a chance to test it this evening or Sunday.

What a wicked setup.......we definately could have used one 2 days ago when we wer cutting down some scrap red ceadar 2 days ago.......I wonder if any of those ever made it to Canada? Seems we usually get left behind with cool stuff like that.

Decided that the chipper was in better shape than i originally thought and I'll fix it/paint it instead of transplanting the chipper on the other shredder. 

 

 

Those pieces have a base coat of rust converter, the main hopper was in good shape though so it doesn't need it.

 

Couldn't get the bolts out of the chipper wheel, and broke an extractor trying, guess I'll need to find someone that can drill it out more accurately and tap it.

for what it is worth, Ace's "Rust Stop" hunter green is a pretty close match to whatever color Mackissic used (at least for mine - it sounds like they may have used a number of different greens over the years)

my neighbor pointed out it is also pretty darn close to my Oliver's "Meadow Green"

When we first got Trina's 657 Pony tractor a few years ago it had Oliver Green blobbed onto its entirety. 

 

She mentioned to me the other day that the Mckissick green looks very similar. 

 

I've also seen different models of Mckissick equipment in Black and a bright red.

 

Mine won't be painted for a while yet but I'm leaning towards that bright red right right now...

yeah i was thinking about red too - i have a can of regal red but that the green has kinda grown on me

I'm not sure what the actual RATING on this thing is.

Mine will be used for anything about 2" diameter and under.

Sometimes a hair larger on softwoods.

I put some hemlock in it the other day that was close to 4". 

The engine did not slow down a whisker. The belt started slipping a little and that's when I knew I had to back off.

So no huge size advantage over my little HF chipper other than the obviously superior engineering and materials. I've been needin to engineer a towbar and upgrade the wheels. This one can choke out on a longer 3" piece.

I have a Craftsman brand chipper with an 8.5 horse engine which I think would be more comparable to your HF.

My Craftsman chipper will TAKE material up to 3" diameter by ratings but in real life it can't handle hardwood more than about ONE inch without slowing down dramatically. 

 

This Mckissick chipper is far far and away stronger and more able to handle bigger and better tasks. 

 

I would consider this not to be an upgrade.

I would consider this to be in a completely different class of machine. 

 

If I was to tighten up this belt or mount an engine to the Mckissick itself it would be borderline on commercial grade.

Try chipping up some iron pipe. That'll likely slow it down quite a lot. 

Obviously deny deny deny  if the significant other inquires.

@seuadr or @Stepney might be able to comment about what theirs does.

 

I don't have the chopping cage next to the fingers right now because it was bent up pretty bad so it lets a lot of stuff through that it normally wouldn't.

I think it's supposed to narrow everything down to 1" or less in diameter but might let things through that are a few inches long. 

 

I really only used mine a couple times so far. I've fed larger branches into the side and they come out as nice clean decent sized chips. Mulch without the color dye.

I have one that I thought about mounting on a trailer. Mine isnt made for a tractor. It is tall, saves space in the shed for storage but not really stable when out in the field. Picked it up at a garage sale for cheap.

I'd recommend it. 

Huge increase in stability. 

 

So imagine a chipper just slightly larger than that... Hooked up to a 16 or 20 HP.
