How Do I Remove Metal Fuel Pump Internals

Recommended Posts

How do I remove the round steel parts from this aluminum pump housing. If you enlarge the first picture you can see the disc inside the left side is broken or stuck at an angle. I have identical new ones from Then and Now Automotive to install

Those are pressed in. They are made of pot-metal. If you pry them out, they will break. Does your kit include new press-in retainers to replace them?

Looks like those will press right in where the others come out. I've done several of those.

The one on the right should pop out if a little shot of air is applied to the threaded fitting on that side. The one on the left may need to be pried out with a small screwdriver. Probably a little corrosion holding them in place.

Keep in mind, on each side there is an upside and a down side. An innie and an outtie so to speak. Pay attention to how they come out. At least that's the way mine was. There was also a small fiber washer under each one. They want to escape.

I'm thinking about rebuilding what I think is the original fuel pump off my C-105, and ran across this real nice video from Then & Now, thought it might fit in nicely here.  By the way, their web site is currently dead, probably best to call them if you need a kit:
