lae1967 35 #1 Posted February 14, 2021 Tecumseh HH100. Was running fine and then died while plowing snow. I thought it was just out of gas. Filled tank, but wouldn’t start, I assumed I had it flooded so just put it away. It’s been two weeks and I have messed with it a few times and it has not even attempted to fire even on starting fluid. New spark plug and it has spark, does the spark get weak if the SSI is going out or does it just die and no spark? Not sure if I have an excess fuel issue and it’s getting flooded or spark issue. Any help appreciated
rmaynard 16,293 #2 Posted February 14, 2021 (edited) I'm not familiar with the Tecumseh HH100, here's a thought. Does that engine have points like the Kohlers? If so, maybe moisture (snow) got inside the points cover and is shorting them out. Scratch that. You said you had spark. But if you do, starter fluid should a least make it fire. pfrederi 18,667 #3 Posted February 15, 2021 Most solid state ignitions are a binary function...They work or they do not. have you checked the air gap ??

lynnmor 7,815 #5 Posted February 15, 2021 You can see a spark by connecting a spark plug and watching it, but that doesn't mean it will fire inside the engine when under compression. A quick and crude test is to use a spark plug with the gap opened to twice the normal setting.
Rob R 973 #6 Posted February 15, 2021 (edited) The capacitors in the CDI ignitions are known to fail (+50 yrs old). If bad you have to replace with new ignition solution, Ed Stoller created and excellent solution using a GM or Chrysler ignition module (edstoller@earthlink.net) or you can do a search for "over night solutions" they also build a new ignition solution for the Tecumseh HH120 engine I assume this would also work on the HH100. lae1967 35 #8 Posted February 18, 2021 I went through and reset the air gap and it fired right off on starting fluid. Hooked up fuel line and got it running again. Thanks for all the information, I may need to do more with it in the future.
