Wheels for 10.5 tyres

Recommended Posts

Arthur England

I am looking to put 10.5 wide tyres on a 520h. The present rear wheels are 7"(111516). I understand that some 520h models had 10.5" wide rear tyres and several of the vertical shaft tractors also have the 10.5s. Are the correct rims 8.5" 78-1221.

Cheers Arthur

It should work just fine with what you have.   I have a wide array of wide tires on not as wide wheels.  The 10.5” tire might be advertised that wide but isn’t always so.  The wheel lip is typically skinnier than the width of the tire anyway.

Also, most 5 lug 12" garden tractor wheels will bolt on, just be wary of backspacing and valve stem placement.

If going 10.5 on 7" wide rims get 4 ply tires the two ply round up like a beach ball. I took the two ply tires off my 1989 520 and put 24 x 9,50 x 12  4 ply Carlise Turf Masters on it they measure 8 1/2 across the tread might go a little wider on 8 1/2" wheels.

The 4 ply Carlise Turf Masters  23 x 10.50 x 12 on my C-120 on 7" wheels only measure 8 3/4" across the tread.

The tire is designed to mount on a 8.5 inch wide rim, but will also mount on wider or narrower rims and still get proper seal on the bead seats.  The 10.5 tires should mount ok on your 7 inch wide rims.  As others have said, doing this will cause the tread to bulge a bit in the middle.

On car, varying the rim width will affect the amount of sidewall flex, which affects the operating temperature of the tire.  Varying the rim width will also change the cornering characteristics of the tire.  We won't notice these changes at the speeds and loads where we typically operate our tractors.

Deestones run narrow but here is a set of 10.5 inch Deestones on 7 inch wheel horse wheels.

I have the Firestone 23d on my 520 with 8.5” wheels. The tires are barely wider than the rim. I thought I read somewhere they ran true to width. I have a set of ATV tires 25x12x12 mounted on 10” wheels, they might be 12” wide. Most tires don’t measure to what they say they do....

Are they 10.50's or 8.50's?  My Firestones were true to size but 10.50's were made for 8.5 wheels.

They are 10.5s. They fit good on the rim, wouldnt want to go any wider wheels size, IMO too much stretch. I’ll have to get pics tonite when get home, thought I had pics on my phone but don’t.

Thank you to all who have provided information on this topic. I was really wanting to fit the carlisle turf trac rs as they are the same pattern as the old dicos on the tractor but carlisle are expensive and out of stock and the info states that they are for 8.5 inch rims. I bought an ebay wheel and tyre which was suposed to be 8.5 inch with a 10.5 tyre. The tyre was 10.5 inch wanda p332 which fits the 7inch rim provided (so I at least now have a spare wheel)

I could just buy a matching wanda and call it good but does anyone have experience of these Dico tyres in the 10.5 size on 7 inch rims.
