2cyl turbo diesel Wheel Horse

Recommended Posts

Maxwell-8

I have been thinking about putting a Yanmar 10hp in my Wheel Horse, but this is just crazy.

He is taking an air cooled 22hp V-twin diesel and he is gone turbocharge it.

Hope the trans is gone hold all that torque.

Seems like a hard install, a 10 hp will just bolt up i believe.

Certainly interesting but waY More than I'd want to get into!

Crazy rubber!  I think way too much for the front.  Can't imagine they offer enough benefit to overcome the downsides.

I PUT A 10 H/P DIESEL IN MY 417-8AND HAD MORE POWER THAN I EVER NEEDED. HIS BUILD IS JUST A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY.

Waste of time, but so is so much of this world we live, but we have fun doing it.  More power to him, if he can pull it off :handgestures-thumbupright:

Isn't necessarily my cup of tea but to each his own.

It's certainly quite a machine.

I've been figuring over the last few years that money and time spent making one's self happy is not wasted.

Just as we all have different preference to certain types of Horses or many other things... His "waste" is obviously different from each of our own.

Couldn't have the volume up but it appears a build like that is for this event. Now it makes sense

These are younger guys doing this stuff with these tractors. They use pretty much any brand and do some interesting mods. Mudding, hills , water crossing and general trail riding is their thing. Kind of like a quad. Not my thing either, especially when you consider you may have to get a tractor off of you. As long as they're having fun.

I really cringe seeing the hacked up garden tractors!! Would make me happy if they built those out of MTD machines and leave the good iron for us!!

I can see why WH's are good for that though, good power to weight ratio. My CC's are heavier for sure and of course lots of WH's out there.

I was kind of having the same thought process as Trina and I were watching that but then she pointed out to me that the reason they use them is because they're so easy to build work on, maintain, etc. And also tough as nails.

Completely agree! They have good ground clearance too!

Those front tires are designed to dig not roll. Not to mention heavy as hell, like close to 50lbs depending what size. I had them on my old 4 wheeler and will sling some serious mud. But for steering while not under power not gonna steer very well. The back tires are designed to paddle, I believe made for Manx 6 wheel ATVs, can’t think of other names. But, it is a cool interesting build.

All I can say is WOW!

If you were wondering where the weak spots are in that transmission, ask him next year.  I'm sure he will have found them.

Ya that amount of torq is definitely living on the edge. If I had a smaller Diesel motor like a ten horse Id definitely look into switching one out though, but ive often wondered when we get our -25c how hard it might be to start???
