Snow supposed to slide off an angled blade?

Recommended Posts

My new to me Bolens snow blade and the recent snowfall was the worst combination I've ever used to try to get snow off my driveway!  I've NEVER seen snow pack and stick to the blade like that!  It was awful and took me at least three passes to clear it good!  I've never used any kind of spray on my blade (or I've forgotten.  I'm sure that's happening...) though I have sprayed my snow chutes.  I just sanded my Bolens blade and I was surprised that even though there was some paint left there was quite a bit of rust pits underneath.  Then I Fluid Filmed the blade and it worked better but it was colder too so who knows.  My WH blade is 48" and this Bolens is only 42" so it really needs all the performance I can squeeze out of it so I searched here first and then online and found this:

Plowsite.com, where I'd think they would know what to use:

I have not read it all but I did read about:

http://plowslick.com/

Plow-Slick is not a lube but a once a season coating.  Might be worth trying.

Wow!,  that website was a mind bogglingng challenge especially if you have Vertigo, with the falling snow and multi colored print.

Sand blast or just sand it down & paint it with a good gloss enamel. I did this with my plow blade & have never had an issue with snow sticking to it. This will work even if there is pitting on the metal.

plow slick similar to EZ Slide or Easy Slip film paint? I used the EZ Slide on mower decks and it helps but you got to keep after it as i wears off.

I always use golf wax on all my snow removal items & the kids sleds. Kind of a pain 2 apply but always worth it. I apply it with a small torch, then polish off access lasts all winter.

I recently cleaned up the the front side of the 48'' dozer blade and did just what Dan said. Used a DA sander then Rustoleum rusty metal primer and finished with Regal Red.Have only used it twice since and have had no snow stick to the blade. Maybe to soon to tell but so far I am pleased with the results.

Gulf Wax? I assume.

Another way to apply is to dissolve the wax in heated paint thinner outside with fire suppression and then paint it on.

dennis , try keeping a painted  SHEEN ON YOUR PLOW ,  being a lubrication freak , I regularly lubricate just about anything , that oil film and other snow slide lubricants will definitely keep a slick slide finish on your blade. any dull rusted finish will not release that  snow . you can even use , waste oil on a paint brush , to stop rust and keep things rust free and slick. have an old cracked plow blade , any lubricant on it , makes it bead up water , like a new car , just an idea, pete
