tensioner engaged when clutch is not

i broke y drive belt got a new one now when i push clutch pedel idler arm seems to go backward and tightens the belt eve more can anyone help

If the pulley is not moving forward when you push the pedal, you may have sheared the pin that fastens the clutch lever to the cross shaft on the left side.

When you step on the clutch pedal the idler pulley should rotate towards the front and down loosening the belt

You have a problem with your linkage, check if nothing is bent.

It all looks right to me too.  Like Mr. Jay said, a belt guard is mandatory for proper operation.

The arm on the left side should point up. Some thing similar to the pic below.

Kirbet, does your linkage look like Dans picture or did you take the lever off and assemble it incorrectly on the bottom.        Please show us a picture of your assembly on this side.

 

I still have to believe the pin must be sheared off.   Look at the two reference punch marks on Dans picture.    Mark your lever and shaft, then depress the clutch pedal and see if the lever changes position on the shaft.  If it does, the pin is sheared off.
