seven 202 #1 Posted December 7, 2020 Have this old cast iron 7 hp briggs model 19d . Put a new carb on it cause I couldn't get the old one to stop leaking out the bottom. It's what you call a upflow carb pretty common back in the day? Anyway go to start it up runs and starts perfect but turn throttle up and it takes off . And won't go back down with control only if you like force it down manually. Everything is the same as it was on original carb as far as linkages.
WHNJ701 4,165 #2 Posted December 7, 2020 Hate to ask... Is it one of china's finest after market carbs? A 2 part flo jet is very easy to rebuild
seven 202 #3 Posted December 7, 2020 Yes it's chinas finest . I tried the new emulsion tube on it but couldn't get it to seat kept leaking so I gave up on it.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,479 #4 Posted December 7, 2020 Have had good luck applying Teflon paste pipe thread sealer on the tapered seat with a toothpick. Think it is a Permatex product. Garry
seven 202 #5 Posted December 8, 2020 Ok maybe I will try that I just am having a hard time with this one it may be that they sent me the wrong carb .idk I would like to find a good oem rebuild kit also. WHNJ701 4,165 #6 Posted December 8, 2020 Look for old oem carbs at shows/sales/online etc... For parts and rebuild. One thing about the 2 parts is they tend to warp. Spray paint the ends black and and sand them on piece of glass

seven 202 #8 Posted December 8, 2020 Is this the area I would apply the teflon
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,479 #9 Posted December 8, 2020 Yes. It seals below the fuel level in the bowl. The holes in the tube are above the fuel level. I never applied sealer to the threads because installing it could allow some sealer to come off and interfere with the adjustment needle/jet I should have called the sealer a paste. Garry Well I've come to the conclusion that my float needle (on original carb) was not seating like it should so that is fixed along with a tiny bit of teflon on tapered tube . Will see tomorrow if it all works out ☺️ 1
