Electric Motor Ideas

Recommended Posts

Scored a big ol Electric motor today. Looks to be a single phase, 7.5hp big guy.

Not sure i can do anything with it though, as if I wired it up with 115 volt, I'm looking at something like 85 amps, and my house is only wired for 100 amps.

I haven't looked hard at it, but I may be able to wire it up as 230, and drop the amps required.

The biggest question though, is if the motor is even any good. Need to check that out first.

What would be some ideas of something I could do with it?

Edit: looking at it a little closer, I dont think i can use it. Motor tag says 230/460 volt, 3 phase. Dang

You can run on 230 with a phase converter but will reduce HP rating. I have done this on several tool motors and they work just fine.

Turn it into a roto-phase
