What do think should I leave the wheels as they are that matches the patina or sand blast them and paint. ohiofarmer 3,379 #7 Posted November 5, 2020 Those wheels would be easy to paint because of being solid. first, jack up the tractor and use the engine to spin the wheel. Sand her down starting with 100 grit or so, spot prime with rustoleum red primer. Let the air out of the tire and force those super thin grocery bags between the rim and the tire. Now the fun begins. Use the engine again to spin the wheel and spray on a coat of primer [sanding optional] , and then apply paint. The solid wheel makes it easy because no spray is gonna get through. I spin paint all my wheels and it is super fast and easy. I just use a transmission/wheel/tire from a MTD piece of junk stood on its side and comfortably paint while standing 2 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
peter lena 9,309 #8 Posted November 5, 2020 SCWHauler, what you want is called a female /stud heim joint , to make up the tie rod ends , https://www.amazon.com/Steel-Inch-Female-Heim-Joint/dp/B075FG4PMG, there is just abbot every variation here . I personally make up mine using 3/8 x 24 steel thread rod , you can replace with exact or make up what you like , just measure to original overall size. I use both types , the stud on the wheel end and the bolt thru on the horizontal center point, never had a problem or failure with these ,with years of service. once you start using heim joints , you might even think of putting one on the end of your PTO lever rod forward end , very smooth easy operation . just me , pete Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
