mic575 27 #1 Posted November 2, 2020 I am working on cleaning up my new 417A and need to find some transmission leaks. I looked underneath and up at the hydraulic lift control module and it is a mess. Absolutely coated with oil and muck and I believe it is wet underneath. So I think there is a leak there? Any pointers on what to do with this? Is it likely a loose hose or bad O ring or does the module likely need to be replaced? This thing looks hard to get to and It also seems like it will be hard to test for leaks because you have to take everything apart (battery etc.) and make the tractor non-running to get to it but maybe I'm over complicating it? Any thoughts? Thank you for any help.
oliver2-44 10,781 #2 Posted November 2, 2020 For starters, while it still running, clean everything up as clean as you can, then clean it some more. Then with it up on jack stands (maybe with the rear wheels off) run it and see it you can narrow down where the leaking fluid is coming from. Pictures at that point would help. But be extra careful looking under a running tractor. 1

When you find a suspected leak take a piece of plastic to direct the fluid away from other hoses/fittings and continue looking. You are dealing with a pressurized system that has probably seen no servicing in over three decades so there may be more than one slight leak.

mic575 27 #6 Posted November 6, 2020 Update: I was able to clean things up fairly well. I definitely have a leak at the control valve - it is a Dukes Fluid Power - 1500 Control Module. It is leaking in the front where the lever handle piston goes in and out. Is this repairable? Any pointers on doing it if it is? I can't find anything so far on here? Regarding the hydraulic hoses - does anyone know what type of hydraulic fittings the 417A has NPT or JIC? Thanks for any info!
