The wire is for the temp gauge has nothing to do with your issue.

I've been into 5-6 of these and one time I was having trouble and finally decided to 'bleed' the lines and that was the problem --- but I think thats unusual.

Pauls suggestion - above - are the 2 best quick checks.

I discovered real quick to do a ck before I mount the engine ... I found an old 11/16" 12 point socket would just go over the shaft and by running the pump with a drill motor I could do a good ck besides just seeing if it functioned, like ck for leaks, that manifold can be tricky to get right and to get everything buttoned up and find one of those O rings had shifted .... well, that aint fun.

thanks for information.  it appears that it is pumping the fluid back to the transmission.  while tractor running opened up top middle port and tried to fill it more thinking fluid low and with the dipstick off fluid starting pumping out of fill hole where dipstick goes.  mid mount lift does not work either..  thanks in advance for any assistance.  also tow valve is closed

yes.  got this pump and motor rebuilt and "ready to go".  the side shaft that hooks to the lever was on wrong side so turned resorvoir 180 deg and mounted it.  also the charge pump wasn't bolted to the motor.  hoping this might help understanding my issue.

Not sure what you mean about charge pump not bolted to the motor.  Hydro motor is on the transaxle.    Swash plate shaft on wrong side??

bare with me I am new to this.  charge pump not bolted to the housing.  the 4 bolts holding the charge pump were missing. when we put it on like it is supposed to be the trunnion shaft was on wrong side.  "the shaft for the forward/reverse lever to connect to.

Do you mean the bolts like the ones I circled (two more down low out of site)  Note the shallow fins are up on a D series  They are down on other models...

the bolts we are talking are inside.  also the 2 D series hydrostat pumps we have are opposite fins than you have....  will try to upload a pic.

Interesting on the fins  but I suppose it really would not make a difference.  Take a look at this thread.
