On yesterday's test run I noticed it is a bit difficult to neutral out the controls. I do have the dampeners in place. They help with the motion but I think I need something else in play to help center the controls I'm just not sure what. Suggestions?

Is there a way to install a spring pulling each direction to create a centering spot?

Or a notch in a piece of plastic?

It's likely once you get some seat time the centering point will become natural to you.

I think with the springs there will always be one pulling harder then the others even if they were mounted with an adjustment of sorts.

It might be a combination of the weight of my control levers and lack of friction. I made a spring loaded ball type detent. It wasn't enough to hold it.

Take the ball detent thought further. 

I was thinking more like a SHIFT ROD detent. 

Larger notch to hold the whole shifter.

I was wondering if there was a way to make a notch of some sort that the shift rods would rest into when they are at zero position. Like a detent style ball would settle into a notch but instead of being the ball the piece that settles, the whole shift rod itself would settle into a much larger notch.

I'm not familiar enough with the layout to really answer that but I'd think that would work.

Friction should help along with the detent and you don't necessarily want those levers to move freely with ease anyway.

Might not be a bad idea to also have something to disengage the engine belt so you don't have to worry about it taking off unexpectedly when you start it or are working on it while not sitting in the seat. Or maybe revisit those break gears on the hydro units instead of using them for mixers! LoL Curious if they also center the levers on the hydro units like a Wheel Horse hydro works.

I put a spring in between the levers originally to add a bit of friction and then the dampeners. I thought that would be enough, but no. I will definitely revisit it.

 

I do have a lever behind the control levers that does disengage the main drive belt. It was installed for this very reason and also to make it easy on the starter during start up. 

 

Upon next start up I will check into those brake gears. Honestly I had forgotten about them.

I am also going to look into the plastic detent.

I was looking in my pile of stuff because i thought i had 2 old trans brake levers with the finger trigger on the front. Alas, I only have 1.

Well there is a bit of everything in my parts pile. Anywhere from a well point to 30s sheet metal to a skip tooth Hawthorn bicycle lol

Possibly once the rig is on the ground, it’ll have a more pronounced neutral?  A tiny bit of fluid power goes a long ways with no resistance.  Not that I like to pay no mind to RedSquare, but coming back from a few days gone is an awesome experience catching up!

Welcome back. I may have the problem solved. You are correct with the lack of resistance. That will make a difference.

Nothing new on this project today. Had to take a side job for fundage. I did make some ATV adapters thou. Well almost done lol

Cutting some tanks today. Not sure how far I will make today but here goes nothing.

I cut a 2in section to weld inside of one of the tanks to help line things up. Ya!! To get those 2 tanks together, it was like trying to give a rabid raccoon a bath. As you can see I persevered. The first spin test didnt go so well. There will be alot of messing around to get them to run fairly true. More tomorrow.
