WheelhorseBob 1,550 #1 Posted October 31, 2020 (edited) Ok guys, I recently picked up a NOS D-series front axle assembly. I consists of the axle, 1” spindles and rims with bearings. If I were to put a 520 swept front axle in my 161, I could use the spindles and rims to make the heaviest C series front evah! Thoughts and has anyone done this? If this sounds foolish say so. I’m sure a D-series enthusiast would covet this front end. Edited October 31, 2020 by WheelhorseBob

pfrederi 18,714 #4 Posted November 1, 2020 There may be an alignment issue for the tie rods. The D series spindles have a bent tie rod attachment plate, 520s are straight. 1

And the tie rod plate on the C161 Is shorter because the stock 3/4" spindles have the upswept tie rod mounts already.
c-series don 10,146 #6 Posted November 1, 2020 I think you might be better off just getting a 520 forward swept front axle. I believe it would be a heck of a lot less work and you will have a front end that is capable of whatever you want to do, loader, blower, 60” deck etc. Just my two cents! WheelhorseBob 1,550 #7 Posted November 1, 2020 Based on comparing my C161 and 520 it looks to me like the D series spindles with a slightly longer set of tie rods would work perfectly with a 520 swept axle. The geometry seems close. IDK, I really don’t need a heavier front on the 161 for my use. Just thinking of a way to use the NOS parts I have....
