ACR Springs, K301 Issues

Recommended Posts

Searcher60

Hello, and hope all is well.  Just got around to tearing down by 69 Electro K301. Used quite a bit of oil. The springs are both missing for the ACR.  I would like to fix this. Also, if there are no markings or numbers on the piston and connecting rod, does that mean for sure that they are aftermarket? Both are in spec., and so is the crank. Cylinder only has .001 wear, 3.374 with bore gauge. It’s the original 1969 WH engine. I do not think the rings are original. Crank is round, and only .001 wear at 1.499. I do not know if I should buy a new Kohler piston and rod. Tempted to just put a set of Kohler rings in it, if they will fit the piston that is in it. Didn’t have the correct Kohler rings. It’s the early serial # engine. Did not come with balance gears when new. But, it was fairly smooth at 3600 rpm. What to do?

See 2 different spec numbers for 1969 at Toro but think the 2nd one is for 1970.

K301S-47147C

K301S-47371C

Finding a new ACR spring will be

almost impossible to find. You might have

want to do what l did. Go on fleabay

and find cam shaft with one on it.
I looked every where and could not

find a spring. It needs to go back in or you

will have a hard time starting.

Mine is K301S-47147C. Not sure, but i’d bet the other one came with balance gears.

I think I found 2 NOS. But, I doubt I am going to be willing to finance the rip-off. It is what it is. I may buy one and then make enough springs to corner the market. I already have the correct wire.

If you did find one you need to

buy a lottery ticket! I had no luck!
lf you do make a few let me know

l have a few motors that needs one!

I found a place that said they had 1,000 used springs. I got them to send me just two. Can’t tell them from new.

I made a compression release spring for my  K301 & it worked perfectly. Didn't have to pull the cam out. That is what I call being smiled down by GOD!
