520H Ignition coil

Recommended Posts

I need some advice on the replacement of the coil on my 94 520H. The original coil, part # 166-0761 (see pic) was impossible to find.

I ordered a coil (see pic) that was supposed to fit according to the site I was on...it is the one with the bracket.

The fact that it had a bracket concerned me when I ordered it, but I figured it would go in the original location and a person would just not use the bracket.

Well it doesn't fit in the original place on the engine.

My question is...Do any of you guys know where I can get a coil that will fit in the original position on the Onan ?

And if I can't get one , has any of you guys used the type coil with the bracket ?

Also, would my coil be bad because of the plastic being cracked off the bottom ? The original type coil is no longer available, you will add the bracket.  You should have received instructions with the kit, I have them here somewhere if you need them.  The test procedure for the coil is in the Onan service manual available in the manuals section.

That coil you have fit right where the stock coil was on mine. The longer leg of the bracket goes closest to the carb.

Thank you #lynnmor and #burnerman...

Lynnmor, no instructions came with mine, and if they did I can't read Chinese...lol.

If you can find the instructions pleas post the here.

Burnernan, When I tried to place the new coil, it would not drop down in the original hole for the coil...so I'm guessing I would use the bracket, and just drop the new coil down as far as it will go. I don't want to try to cut the tin mounting surface on my Onan.

Does it sound like I'm on course ?

lynnmor,

Thank you for taking the time to help me with this !

I found the instruction sheet (C548) you posted in pdf form somewhere in a different thread on Red Square about 520H / P220G Onan coil replacement.

I will print it out a keep a copy in my Engine service manual, and besides I work better off printed instructions.

But, I would have never known to look for " C 548 " had I not seen it at the bottom of the sheet you posted.

And thanks to Burnerman too !
