ATolles 52 #1 Posted September 27, 2020 (edited) I can’t get my ‘97 520H to stay running. Has the Onan P220G. I can turn it over and it will run for about 5-10 sec and then cuts out. I’ve done several things: replaced ignition switch & ignition coil, new fuel pump w/ new lines and filter, took carb apart (a few times) and cleaned it with carb cleaner, checked 9-pin connector and fuse terminal. I’m at a loss and am really getting frustrated. I’v read about everything I can get my hands on and nothing is helping. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks. lynnmor 7,858 #2 Posted September 27, 2020 Will it restart immediately? Tell us more about getting it restarted. Did you pull the fuel hose to the carb and check for adequate fuel while you crank the engine? Did you check for spark immediately after it shuts off? Did you try pulling the choke as soon as it acts up? Did you check for 12 volts at the + terminal on the coil? You did try a lot of parts, one costly part remains; the ignition module. On page 7-99 of the Demystification Guide you will see that the seat switch and the kill relay also needs checked. The relays are available at auto parts stores as well as numerous online sites, they are a common relay used for lighting. Of course check all connections using the Guide, the kill relay socket can get corroded.
ATolles 52 #3 Posted September 28, 2020 @lynnmor Thanks for the reply. I found out the problem yesterday...finally! It was the seat switch. I didn’t think it was faulty because when I was on the seat it would turn over and when I stood up it wouldn’t. Odd. But, I bypassed the switch and it runs like a champ. Guess I have some extra parts now! I do have one thing that happened when I bypassed the seat switch...the voltage gauge, RPM, and fuel gauges don’t work now. Are they connected somehow to the seat safety switch? Thanks.
lynnmor 7,858 #4 Posted September 28, 2020 Not really. Check the 15 amp fuse and also check the voltage there. No voltage on both sides of the fuse indicates a possible ignition switch issue, be sure you bought the correct one, or swap the old one back in. Of course wiring and connections may be the problem. Report your findings.

ATolles 52 #6 Posted October 2, 2020 @lynnmor I checked the fuses & they looked good. I haven’t had a chance to get back to it and check power going to the fuses. The ignition switch is new and should be the correct one. Pretty sure I threw the old one I out.
