I guess I should be used to it by now..... The Canadians came along 7 years ago and bought the lime plants where I used to work. They did their consolidating and cutting and put me out on the street then.

I saw this one coming and was trying to "get out the door" on my own... but I just wasn't quick enough. :D

I bailed on my last job before they went under, only they haven't yet. Probably enjoying record profits with their new, minimum wage, can't afford to live, workforce. In fact, 75% of the experienced workforce walked. Tells you something about management and why I get so irate, huh? LOL

Took me 11 darn months to find something. Hope you do a lot sooner than that.

If you like to drive and can get a CDL, the truck driving market is wide open. OTR, regional, dedicated, you pick. I started with Schneider, really good school, get your year in and hit the market. Everyone wants drivers.

Just my .02

You aren't wrong, Joel. :D

20 years on the 20th of this month, to be exact. :P

The last 6 years has been mainly inner-plant work (with an occasional "road trip") and the "home every day" part sure was easy to get used to. :(

That sucks TT. :D

I get a lay off about every winter with my line of work.

Have to say though it's a differant deal when you have that call back date.

Hope you find something you like soon.

Terry,

When you about my Arkansas 753 and dropped this little bomb, I have been thinking of you. I pray that you, not only find a job, but a better paying one. :D

I wouldn't say the CDL driving market is wide open, unless you plan on never being home. They are always hiring OTR because nobody wants that job, and if they think they do, don't after a short time. No home life. Promises to be home every weekend, or every other weekend is largely just that, a promise that will go unfulfilled. Not saying it can't be done, but for the new, it's a dream.

Too many experienced truck drivers can't find decent jobs much less someone breaking into the field. That's largely why I have the job I do, the ones who'd hire me and I'd be home every night. Every other driving job required two years of experience, within the last 5 years, of the exact truck. Be it dump truck, cement mixer, whatever.

But then again, I'm in Michigan and you won't find a worse market to seek a job in than this one! LOL

Thanks for all of your support, guys!

I'm going to take the driving part of the passenger endorsement test for my CDL in the morning.

Can you picture me driving a bus load of "blue hairs" to the regional bingo championships? :D:thumbs:

Seriously though..... I have a lead on a job at the vehicle testing facility at the local university and they require the "P" endorsement because they test a lot of busses.

Terry,

Now that sounds like an interesting job. I wonder how many G's a bus will pull in a corner turn? Or what is the quarter mile times? Or stopping distances.
