Sunflowers beginning to make flowers

When we were kids, one of my sisters would plant a few sunflowers in the garden.  They'd grow about that tall.  She would get really mad when the squirrels would start raiding the blossoms for the seeds.

Two days’ progress.  One big open flower and many buds forming on the other branches!

We had an hour or so of massive storms Sunday night.  The sunflowers stood tall and continue to bud!

only what was in the ground to begin with...  we haven’t fed them anything but water and maybe a little coffee grounds at seedling state.

I’m in constant awe of the daily change of these Goliath plants!

The Goliath flowers are still reaching to the sun, meanwhile the little ones (same seeds, just less spacing) are beginning to give the garden some joy.  These are seriously beginning to make me want some honey bee hives!

I’ll have to see if sunflowers have a certain gestation period or if they are driven by light cycles... the big ones are petering off and the little ones planted later are all kinds of happy!

The happy days of giants are quickly coming to an end.  A few of the goliaths were chopped at the heads last night.  The stalks are so tough, I wonder if they have any bamboo like qualities?
