Or sometimes it's an electrical problem.

Also a lot of engine noise/smoking. Lets face it fellas. These things aren't going to last forever. I think there's going to be a demand for low hour used engines in the future. And with a lot of machine shops either closing or not doing small engines, it's going to get worse.

I have a C160 that had this problem for at least two years. Sometimes it would run 45 minutes, the next time 15. Sometimes the choke would help so I knew it was fuel related. Rebuilt carb and cleaned a couple times. Cleaned tank and replaced shutoff with  new screen type. Tried fuel pump off of working tractor. Replaced filter and hose more than once. Still acted like it was running out of gas. So I got clear(purplish tint) fuel line so I could see what was going on. It was running out of gas even with the the gas cap off. I put an electric fuel pump on. Problem solved. And this fuel line is supposed to be good for 100% ethonal...

clueless , agree with you on that stopping issue, i regularly add STABIL  to any fuel that i add and have had no issues with that . i also regularly keep in touch with the horses , and do not wait for a fix or other issue. having 3 horses lets me regularly improve on any issue ,and what ever solid fix i come up with , is added to the others , they are all basically the same , 1982, 1991, 1993. having mag engines on all three , i changed over to a common magnum start switch , from the rop shop , also replaced all the regulators , much improved engine/frame grounding to battery dash point. my electric fuel pump swap , over to CARBOLE MICRO ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP , mounted to a UNI STRUT BRACE , IS VERY SOLID AND SILENT . we have all had problems, the repetition of it is your best trace starting point . pete

Website? I have not had any issue but have not been doing a whole lot lately.

Maybe a couple of heavy hitters will chime in?

I would agree with the ethanol, but some of these post say after it sits awhile, fires back up and runs fine for 10 to 15 min. then stops again. That would seem to indicate a heat or vacuum issue.

Crazy isn't it ? it's just not fair to these graduates to have to go through all this. But maybe later on down the road they'll have something  to tell their grandchildren.

Was 108 Thursday when I left work and today was 98 in the parking lot. I’m drenched by 6:30 if I am not working in front of a fan. A BIG fan :handgestures-thumbupright:

The machine shop that I go to I hope it doesn't close down. The guy is cheap and does a really good job. His name is gold with hot Rod Magazine.

:text-yeahthat:   I will be sending a K-241 to a shop in New York City because the closest one to me (three hour round trip) closed down and the next closest one wants $ 120 to cut a cylinder. With shipping both ways the one in NYC will be $ 90.00.

19RICHIE66 , this is my set up , i had an ignition key switch literally fall apart causing a short and a pump problem . replaced the switch and the pump with the carbole micro pump, much stronger than the one i had . the UNI STRUT BRACKET  shown is so solid ,there is no pump noise at all from it. liked the relay idea , spo i built that in too. seperate photo of strut bracket on top of engine shows its strength, probably get one at an electrical supply shop. did this set up on my 82 c-85 franken horse , lots of experimenting on it . did a 12 magnum swap last year . frame already had a drilled hole , next to clutch swing point , used that . so far it works like a champ , no issues at all , hope this helps you out , pete

I just took my 16 horse to my machinist which is about 25 minutes away from here. I had the block bored out to 30 over he's pressing in new valve guides and reaming them out to fit the valves and also grind the valve seats. All this for 70 bucks cash

Yeah, right? Where can I get those 1965 prices? Tell me more about this machinist. No one here south of you and I'm sure I'll be needing one. Maybe everyone can post their machinist's info and we can glue it in the Engines section?

can you pull the choke to keep it running?

When it shuts off have you pulled your fuel line to check fuel pressure or have you checked spark?

With heat developing after 10 to 15 minutes is something expanding as you said vacuum leak? something else?
