please tell me about gear shift lever boot

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am in the process of adjusting brake band of my 312-8 and also placing new rubber boot around bottom of gear shift lever.  There is a set srew of some type protruding from the front of the block where the boot fits....My question, that I hope someone will answer quickly, does the boot cover the set screw or just go down against the screw?

agree with above, use a razor blade to take it off and silicone grease to slide it on ,make it a smooth installation , available on line at many sites, pete

FYI - the boot on my 312-8 was always sliding up exposing the transmission to water.  Boot is in fine shape so I used a small hose clamp to secure the top of the boot the the shift lever.  Problem solved and no more water in the transmission.

I punched a small hole in the boot and put the dog point screw through it, holds the boot in place very well.

the screw holds the gear shift lever in the transmission, loosen the nut, back out the screw a bit and that will release the gear shift lever
