Tbrownlee17 1 #1 Posted May 31, 2020 I was handed down a wheel horse C-175 twin eight speed. I’ve been working on fixing It up and have a couple questions... I need to change the drive belt. However, when I looked it up for this tractor it says it takes a 83” belt but when I put it on and back out the clutch the belt is barely engaged. The clutch spring is fully retracted and the clutch pulley is as far back as it can go and the tractor barely moves. Or moves until under load and the belt slips. Could the belt be too big? I have tried adjusting the clutch rod but it only seems to move where the pedal starts and stops. Also, I will be getting a 42” rear discharge mower deck for the tractor and am probably going to need a new belt because the old one is dry rotted from sitting. Any idea what size it may be? Just trying to be proactive and get the belt before I get the mower deck. Thanks in advance!
Lee1977 7,134 #2 Posted May 31, 2020 I guess you have a Hydro belt. There is two belts listed 108501 and 108502.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,389 #3 Posted May 31, 2020 Attached are the belts for 1983 models from an original parts list. 1983 C-175 Twin 8-speed model 11-17K801 Transmission drive belt 107939 replaced by 93-9809 - (HB x 83.5" or 5/8" x 83-1/2"") That is not helping your problem because the correct belt is longer again. Wrap some tape on the belt you have for a marker and run a tape measure around the outside to see what the actual length is. Is the engine still mounted to the shaker plate? Are the 3 pulleys still original size? Is the new belt you have 5/8" wide? The Twin cylinder models use a longer belt. The online parts lists are most often shared by more than one tractor model. Look at the engine page and the transmission page to see what others are included. You could have 5 different belts listed but none of the applications are identified. Tbrownlee17 1 #4 Posted May 31, 2020 Garry, the answer to all three of your questions are yes. I ran a tape measure on it and the belt I have is a true 83.5. I saw some where the hydros use an 82, do you think if I tried that it would work or be too short to make it around all three pulleys? But I will look at the parts lists and see what I can figure out.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,389 #5 Posted May 31, 2020 Single cylinder 8-speeds Transmission drive belt 78-7100 replaced by 7473 - HB x 81.9" or 5/8" x 81.9" Twin cylinder 8-speeds Transmission drive belt 107939 replaced by 93-9809 - (HB x 83.5" or 5/8" x 83-1/2"") Single cylinder Automatics Transmission drive belt 108501 - (HB/5L x 81.50" or 5/8" x 81.5") Twin cylinder Automatics Transmission drive belt 108502 - (HB/5L x 83" or 5/8" x 83") I do not know what it will take. Trial and error I think. You are correct on the pedal adjustment. Just there to accommodate different height operators. Garry
