AHS 1,546 #1 Posted May 23, 2020 Ok, I have dived right in to ATV motors before... nothing for the bottom end.. that scares me!! My 14hp smokes, regularly... is it worth a rebuild.... this is gonna be used for snow blowing. The 14hp is new to me, the end of this winter. Also, is it no points? squonk 43,821 #4 Posted May 23, 2020 An overhaul done correctly will not be cheap. Being in Maine and this tractor is for snow removal I would want maximum reliability. Before you begin it would be a good idea to locate an engine shop with a good reputation and speak with them. When you consider the durability and reliability of a Kohler engine the rebuild will be a good investment. This service manual should be helpful too. Find yourself a good machine shop, with guys that don’t get their nails done or go to hair salons for haircuts. As stated, Member @prondzy did a great tutorial on Kohler rebuilds. The Kohler manual is a very good reference. I’ve seen YouTube videos on rebuilds and I would stay away from that site. In the videos I’ve seen, several important steps are left out or they just don’t know any better. These engines have their nuances and the manual is a excellent guide.
