Buying a D200 what to look for?

I’ve owned lots of garden tractors, but never had the pleasure of having a D200 wheel Horse.  I have the opportunity to buy one locally, looking for advice what I should look for? And how much $ is too much?

I think a consensus among current or prior owners would be checking the hydro, not only for leaks, but just as importantly for forward/reverse power.  Common test is to have tractor against a solid object like a tree, and see if it will spin the tires.  Second does the engine smoke? The splined coupler between the engine and pump has the potential to get worn.  What if any accessories are included: 3 point hitch, P.T.O. shaft, working gauges, cooling fan, rear turning brakes and any attachments? Mower Deck, dozer /snow plow, tiller or snowblower? I have several D-series price is generally dependant on condition/location could be, in my case anywhere from $175.00 - $1,200.00 hope this helps.

There is really almost no way to answer this kind of question ... A few generalities as D man pointed out which would really apply to any machine.

 

For starters pictures will go a LONG way in helping, and what accessories, or not. Is it a running, driving, useable as is condition - --- etc

 

Location is a big factor in cost, in your part of the country WH's are pretty common, down here is the south many people have never heard of the name. Dmans guesses are about typical -- A plain D in well used condition, $150, A decent looking tractor with decent tires and deck maybe $5-800,

A nice looking clean one with deck and another accessory or two, maybe $1000/1200 ---- its just really hard to say.

 

Then the bottom line of course is ----YOU!!

I found a d250 and purchased it,  not running g and looking for a few parts.  Points, rotor, and cap, anyone have suggestions where I can find them?  I’ve looked all over without any luck

The engine in the D-250 was the same as the Renault Dauphine so engine parts probably can be sourced from a foreign car parts house.

I had three D-250's .Couldn't find any new tune-up parts.Finally found used points,condenser,rotor and cap.Sparkplugs are easy.Made my own plug wire set.I finally sold all my D-250 tractors and attachments.I used to be pretty persistant looking for stuff.At 67 yrs old,I just don't have the  patients to search for that needle in a haystack.Good luck with your search.BTW,old time NAPA man couldn't find the parts either.Brought the points with me.No pictures in his ancient Echlin parts book looked anything like the point set I needed.

You MIGHT be able to find Renault parts in Europe.  @Stormin do you know of any sources? I was a Napa counterman for 10 years and a professional mechanic for 25.There's a reason Renaults are not sold here  anymore. Outside of formula 1 cars they build junk. Continental engine parts aren't much farther ahead either.

 If it's a Dauphine engine all I can suggest is a Renault owners club site. Maybe Tractorhead can be of more help.
