Just spotted this handsome fella on the steps in front of my office. Stuck my finger in there for scale.

Judging by the size of the tip of your finger there it looks like that mantis is maybe 2.5 to 3 inches long. That would make it a female.

Males are tiny little things that would fit right on one of your fingernails.

We see the males here on a fairly regular basis but it's been a while since I've seen one of the females for some reason. Maybe they're better at hiding?

Probably because you don't have many females for some reason.

The ladies eat the males after mating...

I think so...  look at that coy smile on her face in the second pic.

Looks like she might have even put on a little lipstick.

Oh, by the by...

The outboard motor i cleaned the carb on now runs like a good un.

Don't worry about the chainsaw specs, they turned up. They were in the last place I looked. Next time I will look there first, save a bit of time 🤣

Yesterday I finished cleaning up that large tree, firewood removed, holes filled and yard raked.

IMG_2467.thumb.JPG.281115418699ee3b96c562430f178412.JPG

That lasted about four hours and then a down-burst took out another tree at the exact same place.

Just to add to the fun, another tree came down blocking the path.

This mess will need to wait till this heat wave passes.

Stormin

First thing this morning, mowed the lawn.

Then gave the blades on the 48" mower deck a bit of a sharpen. Started to fit it to the C-125 instead of the 36" and then realised I'd not replaced the broken spring on the tensioner for the blade pulleys. :eusa-doh:Found one that does the job, then fitted the deck

Started the engine and engaged the P.T.O. to check all was ok. That was when I realised I'd not fitted the deck drive belt. :angry-banghead:

Eventually I got the green and verges mowed. Setting the deck wheels to the second highest position, had a run down and up the bridleway.

Grass had got a bit long on the green, so after removing and cleaning the deck, got the sweeper out to clean things up a bit. Hitched it to the C-125 just in time for the arrival of the forecast rain.  Could have waited an hour. I'd have got everything done and dusted.

For quite a while now I've had great interest in the fact that when you expect something to work you need to power it up properly.

One of the things I do that I enjoy the most is trying to start an engine and then realizing a few minutes later there's nothing in the tank to burn.

I've also become particularly adept at attempting to operate an electrical item before even bothering to plug it in.

Is this something that happens on a fairly regular basis where you are or are you just incredibly lucky this year?

117 degrees heat index here yesterday. I know some probably have it worse, but I don't care where you are, THAT'S HOT!:angry-devil:

My trees are getting old and many are compromised by ants and disease, so there are more downed trees and limbs than usual.  That said, we get some very active weather on these hot and humid days, like right now as I type.  The storm damage coupled with the bad trees keeps me in firewood.
