Has anyone had experience putting mulching blades on a 42 RD? I wanted to do it with the JD but just never got around to it. I usually just put the lawn sweeper on and drag it around the yard a bit to collect all the big piles of grass.

Nice machine you’ve got there! what a way to have to get rid of a JD... sell a house with it! @ebinmaine some day, I need to chase you down just to take a sip of your cowboy coffee. I’m afraid I might like it too much! To be fair we asked them to throw the mower in because we went from living in town to buying a house with 4 acres. They were moving out of this into one of their parents house and had no need for it. I hadn't ever owned one but my old boss swore by them and my dad was then working for a John Deere dealership after the wheel horse dealership went under. So I had someone to work on it if need be and get me cheap parts.

Buy a house get a shitty John Deere. Funny story, my ex wife and I bought the house together and 6 months later was separated. Lived there thru the winter months so never had to mow. Ex-wife lived there and had to mow. She told me the mower was terrible and didn't mow well. When she moved to Florida I was left going to clean up the place for the ppl buying it. She left the mower. So I took it home and immediately realized her wonderful new man changed the deck belt and put the belt on inside out.... I laughed for a good 15 mins thinking no wonder the thing cut terribly. A new belt and two new spindles later and it cut grass without slowing down. Gotta hand it to them for that. It rarely ever got bogged down even in the thick tall stuff. But I always wanted to mow it a 2nd time from how terrible it looked.

JMO. I agree. Was just poking fun as I was a little shocked at the cost of that considering it probably cost all of 2 bucks to make during the major production runs. I'm not sure what to do for the cup holder yet. I don't necessarily need one but it's convenient.
tom2p 2,394 #36 Posted April 30, 2020 (edited) one option - find a small automotive plastic cup holder insert - and attach to the tractor (console area ?) with double-side high strength / outdoor hook-and-loop (velcro) could also wear a camelbak pack ... keep the tube in your mouth for constant sip and you should never be dehydrated lol Edited April 30, 2020 by tom2p

Cut down and modified to mount on the flat area where parking brake and trans clutch is.
