cleat 4,990 #32 Posted May 27, 2022 (edited) Well, I sat on my new seat and drove around the shop (it's raining outside). Was a great feeling and very comfy. However, I found the gauges hard to see so I added these angle rings. These are made by Autometer part number 2234 Much better now. I put a digital voltmeter on my 310-8, pretty much for the same reason. Numbers show up better than standing on my head to see where a needle hovers... Your solution is great! And I thought all the RS Sierra's were Cosworth. Here they called the same car the Merkur XR4 ( i , or Ti depending on drivetrain) Still, that V6 got some ponies, not as many as the Cosworth of course... cleat 4,990 #39 Posted June 14, 2022 No, not original. Car has been totally rebuilt and modified. Came with a 4 cyl turbo with a 3 speed auto. Engine and transmission are from a Scorpio. Wheels and interior are from my old 87 XR4Ti. These pics were taken of my car at a local car show last year. This 312 now sports the maroon decals that I am converting all of my wheel horses to. Headlight bezels installed. These are the originals with a coat of paint. As for the Sierra...I have a happy memory of briefly driving a V6 4x4 many years ago. Amazing car with amazing traction. Interesting that you said 2.9L....they were officially 2.8 over here, is yours bored out? (In case you don't know: UK Ford made a previous 3.0 V6 named 'Essex' after the county it was built in but the 2.8 was German and named 'Cologne' for a similar reason! cleat 4,990 #48 Posted May 9, 2023 The 2.9 Cologne is simply a later model of the 2.8 Mine is a 1988 model, I am not sure when the transition was or what changed to get the slightly larger displacement. The 2.9 has multiport fuel injection, I believe the 2.8 was carb'd. Car will not win races but it runs very well and has a nice flat torque curve making it very easy to drive. Damien Walker 223 #49 Posted May 9, 2023 I don't ever recall seeing any references to Sierra/Capri 2.9 over here but the Sierra and Capri 2.8s were definitely fuel injected. I'm guessing we might be seeing a difference due to marketing geography but by 1988 I was getting into ex-Buick Rover V8 territory so I may have missed something! cleat 4,990 #50 Posted May 10, 2023 The 2.9 with the 4 speed automatic overdrive in mine actually came from a 1988 Scorpio but was a direct bolt in except for a rewire and shorter driveshaft. Original engine in my 1985 Sierra was a 2.3l 4 cyl turbo with a 3 speed automatic. Car had 300,000 km on it so original drivetrain was weak.
