MikeBe 3 #1 Posted April 8, 2020 Hey, Let me introduce myself a little bit. I'am located in Belgium and on the search of a wheel horse. I think its the most beautiful little garden tractor that i would like to restaure or own. But its very difficult to find in europe. And prices are also on the high side. So it is not gowing to be a collection. I even don't think that the bigger models were sold in europe or you don't find them. So here is my question. Are the mowing decks interchangeable. And i found 3 that interest me a c 116 restaured but a lot missing. It was used as a tractor for pulling and everything mowing deck related is gone. A raider 10. Not restaured just missing the mowing deck. And a charger 12. Its complete. Is there a lot of difference in chassis quality? And is one better than other for collectors? Thanks. pfrederi 18,714 #3 Posted April 8, 2020 Welcome!!! The raider 10 would be a gear drive may have a Kohler or Tecumseh engine. Parts are harder to find for Tecumsehs (especially if it has a solid state ignition) I would prefer it to be a Kohler engine. The Charger 12 will be a Hydrostatic drive and is one of my favorite tractors (I have 6.) The Hydro unit was made by Sunstrand but parts are getting hard to come by.. The frame and front axles would be same Raider and Charger. The gear drive on the Raider is extremely rugged and parts to fix are readily available. The Raider and Charger would use the same mower deck.... 2 1
Achto 29,433 #4 Posted April 8, 2020 I think that Paul laid it out pretty good. Nothing for me to add but a big
Tractorhead 9,212 #5 Posted April 8, 2020 Hi and Welcome to Yap, your sadly right, Wheelhorses here are very rare and in the highest Pricerange i know. on the other hand they are worth the money. I found half year ago just a strongly rusted and half damaged GT14 until now, with 2 defect decks. Most of the Parts are missing and the PO offers that as a „perfect base with just a bit workarround to fix“. I contacted him, to get a pricerange and he told, me that shall be priced with a broken Engine at 1800€. Non discussable. In my opinion too much, because 30% of parts from this Tractor was missing including a new Engine was required and same amount on the decks, to become it a usable machine. I think it‘s maybe better to buy a Tractor direct in US and import it. I’m sure, here in the Forum maybe enough Fella‘s and even Dealers, they can help you, by doing this. So you are able to get a good Tractor for a fair conditions. As my Recherche results, its easier (and cheaper) than it sounds, but you have to have somebody, that is experienced allready. I have actually just an 212-5, what is from it’s Basics not really a Gardentractor by default, its a Mower, no more no less. Independently how much i improved it, but it‘s a Wheel Horse. It was Sat in a burning Barn and after that about 1/2year in Fire distinguisher fixed. I reworked it a bit and it did simply and constantly it‘s Job since. In my case the Best evidence you could have from a Brand, to show how it‘s last. I would go this year to the Big Show, but because of Covid, it was stopped for now. I see, that maybe in France are also few Wheelhorses available, but they beeing also very high priced. If you agree with good quality, they have their pricerange, no doubt about it, but it must fit to what you want. Because of the Shipping and Tax Wheelhorses are a bit more expensiver than in the US, that‘s for sure.
Pullstart 67,066 #7 Posted April 9, 2020 @MikeBe! Keep us updated on your decisions... and know that the frame in general are 1/4” thick 2” angle iron, hard to bust that!
MikeBe 3 #8 Posted April 9, 2020 Thanks all for the replys. Also a very nice forum if i start restoring one. For pictures. I don't own one but i have a few pictures of one that interests me. It had one owner. And what i love maybe a little bit stupid is that the original receipt is still with it. For info it was 8072,48 gulden in 1975. That is 4000 dollar. Also saw that someone is keeping track of serial numbers. This is located in the Netherlands. It looks complete. Just for thoughts how much would you pay for this. It's a charger 12 and running.
pfrederi 18,714 #9 Posted April 9, 2020 From the picture (tow valve decal) and model # I would say it s newer than a Charger it would be a 1975 C-120. has battery points ignition better than the breakerless or Magneto on many Chargers. Here it would probably sell for 500-800
wallfish 18,242 #10 Posted April 9, 2020 The model number 1-0491 comes up as a 1975 C-120 Automatic like Paul wrote but that's over here. It sure looks like it's a C-120 over there too. Mule drive for the deck too.
953 nut 60,361 #11 Posted April 10, 2020 Considering the scarcity of in Europe it would be hard for us to give a proper price. If you have some auction sites or other ways of finding what they sell for near you that would be the best. With parts being a problem I would strongly suggest you look for a very complete running driving unit. The cost will end up being less than a project. MikeBe 3 #12 Posted May 2, 2020 I found one. It's a c121. Actually price was still ok. Also found a rototiller (very rear in europe) for cheap. Told the person i buy it. Had his adress and a appointment. The next morning he comes with an excuse that he has to leave and it would be in the afternoon. Than i get a message that it is sold. Sold it to someone that had bidden more. After we had an agreement. Very very angry. So if someone has one for sell let me know.
