bellevillerod 834 #1 Posted March 27, 2020 Hey guys I just picked up an M18 and am cleaning it up. I wanted to start it on my bench just to make sure it runs. Question is what do I have to do to accomplish this. What need to be hooked up so I don't fry anything. Can I just hit the starter and dribble some gas in it. It is a electronic ignition so I don't have any experience with these. Thanks
diesel cowboy 263 #2 Posted March 27, 2020 To start it you just need to put power to the starter. There is one wire that goes to the mag to ground it to shut it off, I believe it's white. Don't put power to it but you might want to have that easily reachable to touch it to the engine to shut it off quick if you need too. Make sure it's clamped/bolted solid to something as they have a tendency to shake or vibrate around. Other than that just put some gas down the carb and give the starter some power and if it's going to it should fire 1

I see why they were tossing the tractor. Besides the hydro unit the mice had built a huge home and it reeked of _ _ $$. Cleaned it as good as I could sprayed it down with engine cleaner. Let it set for a while then wash it off. Now to flip it sideways and find a tractor that needs a big engine. Maybe a little round hood.... 3 2
bellevillerod 834 #7 Posted March 28, 2020 (edited) Had to stop for the night, got 3 projects started..lol. I have a spare tank I will get some video of it running tomorrow. See what it really sounds like, and burn off some of that smell. Glad we have 5 cats around the place, don't see many mice around here. Here's my biggest "cat" but she don't hunt.... bellevillerod 834 #11 Posted March 28, 2020 It's mom was killed by a car when it's eyes were just opening. So the wife decided to bottle feed it to release. Well it turned out that she was so gentle and got along with the dogs an cats. Gave her a rabies vac and released it but she never left. Smartest critter I ever saw uses a litter box and knows a bunch of commands.
