RJ58 foot rest or stirrup

Recommended Posts

Oldskool

From what I have been seeing/reading any type of foot rest or stirrup for the RJ58 was an add on item from the dealer. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I would like to have a pair on my RJ58 but not sure which style it would of had. Also thinking of making my own replicas of them so any pics and dimensions would be very helpful.

No factory foot rests for any RJs. Any that you see were just added from previous owners. The 1960 foot rests would be the most period correct and also the easiest to repop yourself since they're not casted. Just bent diamond plate steel.

Toolbox and rear fenders were and extra option so either way on those is factory correct

Found this pic on the net

@wallfish Thanks for the pic. I assume the foot rests are held on by a sleeve that sides on the shaft and has a set bolt much like the one that holds the hubs on. It is funny you mentioned the tool box and fenders. I believe I have found a set of fenders ($100pr.) close to home but no tool box. I would like to have dimensions and pics of a tool box.

Yes, held on with a tube and a seat bolt. There's a reproduction set of foot rests on epay right now for $31. Search "suburban foot rests"

Someone posted dimensions of those foot rests before, but just can't find it.

I can get pics and measurements for the tool box

Thanks @pullstart . Here are pics of my foot rest project. Started with a piece of discarded diamond plate. Some 3/4" bushings, square nuts and square headed set bolts

Thanks to @wallfish for some info on these and an unknown member for the diagram below, the RJ is sporting some new rests. I want to point out that the unknown member is only unknown because my dumb ass forgot to write the members name down before I lost the old post. If it is your diagram please speak up

I would use stainless bolts and nuts! That way you or the person after you will be happy if they want to remove them! LOL Lookin awesome!
