Pond 2 wheeler

@WHX24 found this located near me and asked if I would pick it up for him. Well, it was sold when he contacted the owner. I was disappointed because I wanted to see it in person. It seemed like a steal at $150 or at least it did to me. Out of curiosity what's your opinion on the value? It sure looks to be in good shape and as far as running, the ad said they haven't run it in 4 years. Pretty cool little Pond. :)

Those are pretty cool little rig.

I can't answer for the specific value of that machine or anything close to it but I'm telling you right now the TIRES are worth that much. The rest is just free....

I agree. Or the engine. OK you pre-58 RJ guys. That drive system looks nearly identical. What do you think? :)

Yeah oh well Bob ya win some ya lose some :crying-blue:

Figured the vintage Clinton was worth the price of admission.

Had visions of hooking up a sulky behind it and strutting around as shows with it!

out in my area, walk behinds are worth next to nothing, I have picked up several mixed brands over the years either for free or under 50 bucks.  I never seen any ponds out this way, last walk behind I grabbed was a very early simplicity that had a k91 and ag 6-12s, I think paid 30 or 40 for it.  I can't give the rest of it away whole and I don't want to scrap it, most of the walk behinds I do part out online

I concur.. walk behinds are virtually worthless, unless it's a David Bradley.. people pay a lot of money for them just to have as decor it seems.. that and they were on some History Channel show.. so that drove the prices to insanity. Though they seem to be dropping now..

I've had an Evinrude/OMC walk behind, Pond, Simplicity, Planet Jr., Gravely, DB, Handiman.. etc.
They were all cute to look at and putt around a show with. But that was it. The Gravely was atleast versatile.

Those Clintons can be had for about a dollar a pound at local shows.

I have never paid more than 75 for nice original ones. And often bought them for tires, if nothing else. I stopped buying them entirely now, there's just such a small demand for anything but the most unusual.. Sprywheel for example.

A neat collectors piece. But unless you need to do some light tilling, they are virtually useless these days. (This is coming from the guy who as 600+lb 3hp engines that sit around and do nothing too mind you)B)

Some makes did offer a rotary mower for the front.. just incase you were looking for an excuse to run one now and then..

Wow guys. Just being a Pond would, in my mind, would add some value. Well, it would for me. I like Jim's idea of the sulky and shows. I'm sure it would have gotten a lot of attention. :)

Wow I guess I'm going to the wrong shows then. Anything Clinton scarce around here. My other thought was if nothing else the motor would make a decent somewhat original  repo for a 56 RJ project I have. Or just a summer show piece in front of the shop. They take little to no space on a load to a show and I bet I could get it into the BS!

Location, Location indeed. I see nice machines in some places for dirt that would be very expensive here .. for junk.

Old Teccy/Lauson, B&S, Clinton etc. In general an average 30-50's era model will bring little more than 25-50.00.

I picked a bunch of kohler parts from a guy, he also had a bunch of Clinton stuff, I told him I didn't a have use for them.  he couldn't even give it away.

I have one of them, mine has the 1 1/2 hp briggs. nifty little thing. I bought only because its a Pond and a 1946. First year of production for Pond.

As for value its true there is not a lot there but time and place affects it somewhat.

The gear reduction is the same as the 55-57 tractors, they just added a frame for the tractors

That pickee should be informed of this new invention call Ebay Jason. Us Clinton fans cringe when we see their prices there not to mention NOS parts. I just picked a box of NOS Clinton parts for a Grant. Might have took it up the rear, maybe not we'll see. Have yet to sort out what's all in it. I aspire to be a Clinton expert like Clinton Nut or Vin.

Truth be told one reason I wanted to score this one was to have to come get it from Bob spend some quality time with him! Another reason was it would have been nice to display it beside early the  RJ's to point out the transmission.

You have one @refracman why are we not seeing :text-coolphotos: !?!?!? Is the Briggs orginal?

I have the guys contact somewhere? I will have see if I can get ahold of him.  dude had a ton of stuff.  unfortunately there is limit of what you can bring home and use.  he could have sold on ebay for years and probably could have made a some good extra cash but he didn't seem to intrested in the online thing.  I told him he should.  he seemed liked lifetime hoarder and his wife wanted the property cleaned up and he had some health issues he was getting sorted out.  real nice guy.  I remember he had some neat looking old mtd?  big old garden tractor had a cool looking front grill.  he was trying to put that in my truck too
