Dirtpoor 131 #1 Posted December 15, 2019 Ok I just got this Raider 10. Someone changed the carburetor out with a cheap Chinese one. Not saying that’s the problem. But the spark plug looks like it’s burning lean. It’s popping out the exhaust and a little thru the carb. And it seem low on power all so. Any help would be appreciated 👍 Can someone recommend a decent carb. Thanks

Thanks Popping through the carburetor might indicate a timing issue or possibly a valve not seating fully, though it could be carburetor related. Have you adjusted on the carburetor any? There should be two adjustment screws, one for idle and one for high speed. That's where I would start As for a replacement carb, I would find an original carburetor and bush the throttle shaft if it needed it. Agreed.... @JCM Jim and I going to attempt that today. I've not had great luck with the Chinese carbs and I really prefer to use the originals so I want to learn to fix them.
953 nut 60,067 #4 Posted December 15, 2019 I would begin with a new spark plug and clean or replace the ignition points and then set the ignition timing. This thread will show you how.

peter lena 9,279 #6 Posted December 15, 2019 hello dirtpoor, i have a recommendation on carbs , https://isavetractors.com/carburetors/ , the carb i bought from them , has not been touched at all for adjustment since bolting it on , comes in a sealed bag , to verify its operational function, make your carb problem go away . i agree with others above in the electrical side for problems, fresh , properly gaped plug , new points and condenser , and most important, fresh wire connections and no wire chafing, just my own experience , pete
Dirtpoor 131 #7 Posted December 16, 2019 Ok I readjusted the carb. Po had one of the set screws almost all the way out. Screwed it in then docked it out 2 1/2 turns out I didn’t hear it popping out the exhaust. But it was popping out the intake more. It was to cold out side to mess with it to long. Thanks for all the info. I would love to get this one running. It just snowed we got about 4 inches of snow. And this tractor just happens to have a blade on it 😳
Dirtpoor 131 #8 Posted December 16, 2019 Alright thanks everyone!!!!! I got my tractor running way better then it has sense I’ve owned it (1 week). It was the points mostly then the carb. No popping now but it will only run with the choke on but that’s an easy fix. I was plowing snow with it and it had no problems. Other then the lack of up keep from previous owners. 👍👍👍👍👍👍 1
