Changing Hydro Fluid In My Bronco 14

Recommended Posts

12Horse Paladin

Morning, everyone😊

I am going to  be getting the tools needed (jack n jackstands n Valvoline 10w30 oil) today to change out the hydraulic fluid/filter on my Bronco 14, hoping to do this in the next few days b4 it turns cold.😁

Ive done searches n read my old manual n the lil bit of paper i have on it, but there isnt much of a description n no pics, on the procedure. I THINK I know which is the plug, but want to be sure.

Could someone post a pic of where that drain plug is?

Is there a procedure to follow, or tips or tricks?

Or is it just like a car...pull the plug; the filter n drain, then replace all and that is it?

Any and all pics would be very much appreciated!

I'm assuming you just replace the fluid through the filler neck under the seat...i'm just praying that i pour slow enough, lol.

Thanks for all your help n suggestions, everyone.

Hope y'all have a good day!

PS---Ithe expense wouldnt be a concern, rightnow....would it be best to change the fluid, run the tractor a bit, and change again, for any reason? I have limited space to actually move it around, but want to do this correctly/if necessary ...🤔

I don't have the answers for you because all of our tractors are gear drive but I'm curious to see what folks will say so I'm going to follow along....

What l have read here is to see what color the fluid that is in it . If its red go back with

ATF and if it comes out a brown  ish  color

then use motor oil . The drain plug is on

the bottom . Lift the front up as high as

you can to get all of the fluid out

The drain plug is on the bottom of the transmission near the trailer hitch, a 1/4" Allen wrench should fit it. Be sure to lift the front end up as high as you can to ensure complete draining.

When it come time to fill the transmission a piece of wire between the side of the funnel and the fill tube will allow a small air space (vent path) to reduce the likelihood of fluid burping out.

I don't think you would gain anything by changing the fluid twice. Chances are the fluid will look like new when it is drained.

Outside taking a look at things b4 i start, dunno if i will yet or not...

Would anyone be able to provide a pic, roughly, of where thzt drain plug might be...?

I see nothing on the bottom, as of yet, but do see 2 places that might b it, on the side of the case *shrugs*

Thanks for any input on this, plus all so far!

I don't have a picture but here is a breakdown of a parts list and its part number 47  it's under the hitch in the back.

Rest assured that if you don't have something allowing some air in while filling, you will have a nice sized mess to clean up!

You will still have to pour very slowly to avoid burps....

Believe it or not, i used a large plastic zip tie...

And it was working GREAT...until the very last inch or so in the 5qt bottle (my fault)...think i tipped a lil too fast.

I was awfully proud of m'self up to that point, having never done it before, lol.

But now i bet i know why they put that one little hole under the seat, behind the filler neck😉🤔🤣

But, it is done😁

Fwiw...GLAD I DID...PO had used a 350 Chev Fram filter; PH16

I will never understand thinking like that....especially when you have a manual to reference (he did)....sigh....

Thanks for all your help, everyone!

I guess he figured it looked the same and didn't know he need a hydraulic filter.

I never had one need the full five quarts anyway!               :text-lol:

But, well....

If that is true, what happens if/when you overfill? The fluid now is so clear it is hard to read that dipstick; n i dont think i did, but shouldnt that be an exact/ universal amout, that the manual specifies?

All depends on how completely drained the system was.. Don't worry about it if there is fluid on your dipstick you are OK.  if it is over full the worse that can happen is it may push some out the dipstick cap breather if it gets really hot. Look down the dipstick if the fluid is below the pipe do not worry. (if it is in the dipstick pipe suck some out.)

If you pull the dipstick and lay it on a white rag or piece of paper the wet area will show up on the rag/paper.
