Many times when the rod breaks like that it cracks or chips the apron.

I never use them if they are chipped. Of course I’m in a position where I have blocks that I can use and trash the chipped block.

you can sleeve the engine, which isn’t cheap, or try it. I have know folks with small chips that have made out fine however, most don’t fair well. 
I can’t see spending machine cost, and new parts for something that has a good chance of failure and wasting all the resources that went into the rebuilding process. That’s just my opinion.

it's probably irrelevant now, but did the larger battery fix the cranking issue?

 

I'm now second guessing myself as to whether or not I put the rod facing the correct way in the K321 I put together. The engine kit came with good instructions so I probably did, but seeing this just makes me wonder!

 

As far as whether or not a chip in the skirt would hurt anything, I'd say if it was below the oil ring and you could verify that the skirt isn't cracked, you'd probably be fine. Especially if you're just doing a re-ring. Blocks are extremely scarce down here so I wouldn't automatically toss it.

 As far as the battery yes it did crank it over and got it started which caused this whole thing LOL !  Well I'm not really sure why it did what it did but I'm thinking possibly two things. The rod cap was on the wrong direction or the torque was wrong on the rod cap or both.  As far as the block is concerned I did not see any substantial damage caused by the rod explosion .  I had it apart the second time to put in a ACR spring which also helped it turn over easier .

Where did you get your ACR spring? I was recently told by a CC guy that they were NLA.

 

Did you pull it apart to put the ACR spring in after you had the cranking issue or before? Hopefully my suggesting that didn't cause you to pull it apart and cause this!

No worries! I found the ACR spring off another motor I had laying around. I decided to tare it back apart after I replaced two starters to start a  solenoids  and purchased a new battery with more CCA . Although the battery did help after I put the ACR spring back in it. That little tiny piece of wire is amazing. I did find them on eBay for next to nothing less than 10 bucks. It was nothing on your part that made me tear it back apart. It did sound good for just a few minutes till she blew!! 

Lol! I put it aside for now and decided to take the.  14 horse apart and go through it to put it back on this tractor .  It ran well just pooped a little smoke .

you photo show that the hole on your cap isn’t present. 

 

 

Not sure l follow.  It appears that the  Second picture has the whole facing the camshaft. And that is a totally different block
