Mower deck gauge wheel bushings

Recommended Posts

I have several gauge wheels with  worn bushings.  Is there a source for replacement bushings, or better yet, bearings?  The wheels are in great shape otherwise.  Thanks.

I find the bolt wears faster than the hub a new bolt may help.  or you could drill out the and press in something like one of these.

I thought of that.  I was hoping to find a bearing that would fit.   I've been making my own shoulder bolts using grade 8 bolts and steel tubing.  Bill

They are Flanged sleeve bearings 1/2 ID 7/8 OD 5/8 long   (Flange is 1/8" thick)  Couldn't find them at McMaster 3/4 OD was biggest they had for 1/2 ID

If you upped your shoulder bolt to 5/8"  you could do these.  I looked at Fastnal and MSC only thing i found MSC had Polyethene in that size for $11.22 each

Picture of wheel with bearings out.  You could sleeve the hub down to fit flange bearings.  note that there is one hole in the hub for grease and it is opposite the grease fitting.

I might be able to make those bearings work.  Thank you.  Bill

If you figure out how to use 3/8"  shoulder bolts as axles please keep us updated.  i hate the prices they charge for wheels

Me too.  I was thinking of bolting the wheels directly to the deck height adjuster, using long grade 8 bolts with two nuts to make a stud setup.  Cut off the bolt head and drill the bolt for a cotter pin or thread to the desired length for a lock nut.  Bill

I put the bolt through the hub and then a nut on the bolt. This goes into the mounting bracket with a nut and lockwasher added to mount the assembly. Then the first nut is adjusted to eliminate any play in the bolt/axle and the second nut locks everything in place. Used a bolt that has enough unthreaded shank so the inside bearing is not sitting on threads. Cut off any extra threads.
