dodge78 90 #1 Posted April 19, 2009 Cam mark crank mark timing hitting 3/8 of a turn one way and 1 3/8 of a turn the other way the crank rod hits the cam. The only other mark on the cam is a C stamped on it. What am I missing?
dodge78 90 #2 Posted April 19, 2009 here is a closer picture of the timing
fordsonmajortom 1 #3 Posted April 19, 2009 Definately something wrong somewhere, when we timed ours up we just made sure the piston at top dead centre on the non firing position, in this position both valves should be partialy open. The copy of the kohler manual we had wasn't very good so had to do it with a bit of trial and error. Hope this helps as very difficult to explain Michael
Jim_M 178 #4 Posted April 19, 2009 Are you sure it's the right crankshaft? I may be thinking wrong but the timing shouldn't affect the clearance between the crankshaft and the camshaft. Even if the timing is wrong the crankshaft should still be able to swing past the camshaft.
oldandred 15 #5 Posted April 19, 2009 was this engine pulled down ans a rod or crank replaced ??? I just finnished a 14 hp with a 18 hp cam and no problems it runs great cant tell about the power Im trying to break it in real easy its going to be a puller mounted in a work house 700 tractor all engine
dodge78 90 #6 Posted April 20, 2009 When I got this tractor, the engine was dead. The rod and piston were out of it already. The head and oil pan were on the engine but loose. It didnt look like anyone had been messing around with anything else. Some pictures are here. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?showtopic=8486 The rod is hitting on the fuel pump lobe, so I may have to adjust the timing until it clears and then see where the timing is. The only other thing is maybe a wrong rod but I dont have anything to compare it to.
